‘I Celebrated Too Quickly’: Mia Reflects On Her Shock Big Brother Eviction

After surviving Sunday night’s eviction, Mia thought she was safe for another week, but one phone call changed everything.

When host Mel Tracina revealed that Jane had been evicted, Mia stood up and helped her with her suitcase, gave her a hug, and told her that they’d be seeing each other very soon, but Mia had no idea how true that was.

“When I said that to her, I really meant we’re both from Melbourne and we live like 20 minutes away from each other,” Mia told 10. “But I’m also someone who is very intuitive and, throughout the week, I thought Michael had gone home so far, the next [eviction] has got to be a double.

The housemates were totally unaware that 20 fans had been given the phone number to the Big Brother house, and one lucky caller would ring through and have the chance to save one of the remaining nominated housemates, Mia or Allana.

“I was thinking, us Melbourne girls might be sent packing because Allana is a Queenslander and she’s going to have a lot of people rallying for her, so it made sense to me,” Mia explained. “When Jane left… of course I didn’t want to see Jane go, but I was definitely relieved for myself, and I definitely celebrated too quickly.

Unfortunately, Mia’s instincts were spot-on, and in a cruel turn of fate, it was her unrequited crush, Edward, who answered the call that sealed her fate.

“It was the most ironic thing that he had to deliver the news. I’d love to ask him how he felt because he did look like he was emotional about it,” Mia said. “He had joked that he’d love to see me go, but… I think he might miss me a bit. I loved annoying him,” she laughed.

Having spent a night back in the real world, Mia admitted that she was still readjusting to not being under surveillance 24/7. “I know it was only a short time but… getting back to normalcy is such a wild thing. I think everything will hit me when I go back home.

“There’s so much to process, and I know I’ll do a lot of journaling, a lot of watching the episodes, and I’m very keen to see a lot of the online stuff too. But, right now, I’m just being in the moment. Being present is so important to me, so I’m just enjoying everything as it comes.”

Describing herself as a “big personality in a house full of big personalities”, Mia received the second most nomination points last week. Her chipper nature and ability to talk underwater had begun to irk some of the housemates, and her ongoing one-sided crush on Edward had also ruffled feathers.

“All I wanted was my personality and authenticity to come across, my quirkiness, the weirdness, and being so clumsy with my words sometimes, and I do feel like that came across,” Mia explained. “My big energy and positivity, I couldn’t be happier with how I’ve been perceived.”

Applying for the show, Mia said she just wanted the opportunity to be herself. “I’m not someone who can act and lie, I just can’t pretend… unless it’s a fake phone call to my sister,” she said with a laugh.

“I can’t help but be super unfiltered, and that’s what I loved about the show. It’s about everyday people, and I want to be someone that people really relate to in whatever way,” Mia continued. “No matter what age you are, what colour your skin is, no matter your sexuality, I just wanted to be someone who you saw and was like, she’s just being herself.

“It’s such a privilege to represent so many different communities. I wanted to do so in a really authentic way, but also show that I’m just someone who is still figuring themselves out. I’m just Mia!”

Due to the shocking nature of how she left the house, Mia was given the opportunity to nominate two housemates, and Big Brother not only revealed who she nominated but also her reasoning.

“I’m always hoping that I can shake things up. I think the way I left the house, it was starting to get very clique-y, and there were unspoken alliances and truces,” Mia explained. “I want to see people really step up and not be afraid to speak their mind.

“I feel like there are a lot of people playing the game really hard and trying to fly under the radar, or be perceived by the public in a certain way… so I definitely would like to see some big changes!”

Looking at the remaining housemates, Mia said she hopes either Emily or Colin wins, as both are well-deserving of the win and the cash prize that goes with the glory in her eyes.

As for who she doesn’t want to see at the end, in typical unfiltered Mia fashion, she laughed as she said, “Oh gosh… so many people.”

“Holly has got to go soon, she’s someone who I think is definitely, 100 percent there to build a name for herself and boost her followers,” she continued.

“I really do love all of them in their own ways, even with Holly, we didn’t see eye-to-eye, but I respect her hustle, as she calls it, and wish her all the best. I just don’t want to see Colin hurt… but he can make his own decisions.”
