Over four decades Sigrid Thornton has held a unique position in the Australian film, television and theatre landscape over multiple genres and platforms on and off screen. She has starred in many films now regarded as classics of the Australian cinema including early box office hit, The Man From Snowy River.

Other television career highlights include Nine’s flagship drama, Amazing Grace, a reboot of her hit series SeaChange which topped the 2019 ratings with its debut episode. She was a series regular on Wentworth and her performance in the highly acclaimed 2016 miniseries Peter Allen – Not the Boy Next Door won her the AACTA best supporting actor award for her portrayal of Judy Garland.

Film credits also include, Bff’s, Scare Campaign, The Man From Snowy River 2, Love in Ambush, The Lighthorsemen, Slate Wyn & Me, Snapshot, The Getting of Wisdom and FJ Holden. Sigrid, a strong supporter of new talent, starred in the low budget independent feature, Slant, fully financed through the private sector. After winning best picture at Monsterfest, a national release of this rollicking dark comedy led to a pickup by SBS in 2024.

In 2021 Sigrid starred in the STC’s production, Lifespan of a Fact, and in 2023 for Andrew Upton’s adaptation of Checkov’s The Seagull.

Sigrid has won numerous awards including, Logies, People's Choice and in 2019 she was awarded the Chauvel and Cinefest OZaward for her contribution to screen arts. In 2019 she received an AO for her contribution to the performing arts.
