At least 24 people have died, and many more remain missing after flash flooding struck the Guadalupe River in south-central Texas. Triggered by up to 300mm of rain, the flooding prompted a flash-flood emergency in Kerr County, northwest of San Antonio. Officials say 237 people have been rescued so far, including 167 by helicopter. More than 20 campers from an all-girls summer camp are still unaccounted for. Local authorities say the flood hit before dawn with little warning, making evacuation impossible.
