The President of El Salvador has stated he would not order the return of a Salvadoran national who the US government mistakenly deported to a maximum-security prison in his home country. President Nayib Bukele called Kilmar Ábrego García “a terrorist” and insisted he had no power to return him to the United States during a meeting at the White House with Donald Trump on Monday. The comments come after the Trump administration claimed it was not legally obligated to secure the return of Mr García, despite the US Supreme Court ruling that the administration must “facilitate” his return.

The United States is investigating whether Israel violated the Gaza ceasefire by killing a Hamas leader on Saturday, U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed on Monday. Trump went on to say, however, that his relationship with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is "very good" and doesn't believe Israel has been undermining peacemaking efforts. On Sunday, Hamas' Gaza chief Khalil Al-Hayya urged Trump to compel Israel to "respect the agreement" and "not expose it to collapse" following the killing of the group's senior commander Raed Saed in an Israeli strike a day earlier. Netanyahu, in a joint statement with Defence Minister Israel Katz, said the killing of Saed was provoked after an explosive device injured two soldiers earlier on Saturday.

Nick Reiner is being held in jail with no bail, according to the local police department. Earlier documents showed bail had been set at $4 million (AUD$6 million). The 32-year-old most notably co-wrote the screenplay for 2016 film ‘Being Charlie’, which has father directed. The film was inspired by Nick’s challenges with substance abuse.
