Australian Mum Left In A Coma In Vietnam After Nose & Eyelid Surgery | 10 News+

Chloe Mowday, an Australian mother of three, has been left in a coma and on life support after travelling overseas for a cosmetic procedure. Mowday went to Vietnam for rhinoplasty, commonly referred to as a ‘nose job’, and some surgery on her eyelids. The day after her procedure, she went downhill and had to be put in an induced coma in hospital, with her organs starting to shut down.

Australia’s eSafety Commissioner Opens Up On Road To Implementing Social Media Ban | 10 News+

Network Political Editor Ashleigh Raper sat down with Julie Inman Grant, Australia’s eSafety Commissioner, who opened up about the journey to getting the nationwide under-16s social media ban into effect. Grant admits there will be “teething issues” with the ban’s rollout, and says parents are able to report any incidents of social media platforms not complying with the ban.

Teenagers React To Australia's Under-16s Social Media Ban | 10 News+

10 News+ sat down with teenage girls from St Joseph’s Catholic College on the New South Wales Central Coast who have been saving photos and memories from their favourite apps in preparation for the social media ban for under-16s. Tilly, Coco, Helen and Imogen are aged 14 and 15 years old and label the harmful content spreading online as ‘demoralising’, ‘toxic’, ‘influential’ and ‘unsafe’. They all agree there is a problem, but have differing views on the ban and question if it will work. The students in this story are not allowed to use phones at school, but are exempt on this occasion for the purpose of filming.

What Social Media Algorithms Push To Teenagers’ TikTok Accounts | 10 News+

To test out what types of content social media platforms are pushing to teenagers, before today’s social media ban kicked in, 10 News+ set up two fake accounts on TikTok - one male, one female, both 14 years old. The fake girl’s account was flooded with make-up tips, dancing videos and instructions on extreme dieting. The fake boy’s account was very different - filled with pranks, sexualised content, and schoolyard brawls.

TPG Boss Reveals Another Death May Be Connected To Triple Zero Failure | 10 News+

The boss of TPG Telecom has revealed to a Senate inquiry that a second person may have died after they failed to connect to Triple Zero using an older Samsung phone. Inaki Berroeta says the death happened on September 24 in New South Wales’ Blue Mountains. A TPG customer, who was using a Samsung handset, tried to call emergency services but was unable to. TPG says it was only informed of the incident on Monday, a claim challenged by Telstra, whose CEO Vicki Brady says Telstra knew of the death on the day it happened and notified the government, which notified TPG.

South Australian Premier Defends Social Media Ban For Under-16s | 10 News+

South Australia’s Premier Peter Malinauskas, who is one of the architects of Australia’s social media ban for under-16s, has defended the controversial world-first legislation. He says the ban will have a major impact on children’s online safety, but also concedes that the way the ban is enforced will not be perfect. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has also released a video message to kids, urging them to take on new real-world hobbies and spend more time with loved ones in the upcoming school holidays, instead of scrolling on phones.

An Australia Post delivery driver was caught on camera throwing a package that was marked ‘fragile’, sending it flying through the air. Australia Post told 10 News+ the postie’s actions “did not align with the standard we expect” and that the matter will be managed through their “internal disciplinary process”. However, it doesn’t seem like an isolated issue. A Facebook page dedicated to Australia Post complaints has garnered over 30,000 followers.

Federal MP Anika Wells Scrutinised Over Taxpayer-Funded Travel Expenses | 10 News+

Communications Minister Anika Wells has referred her own taxpayer-funded expenses for audit by the Independent Parliamentary Expenses Authority, while maintaining all her claims are within the federal guidelines. She has faced scrutiny over a series of trips funded by the public purse, including almost $100,000 in flights for her and two staffers to New York to promote Australia’s social media ban at the United Nations. It was also revealed $3,000 was spent on Wells’ family joining her on a work trip to Thredbo, and $9,000 spent on family travel for three AFL grand finals.

ALDI Fails To Phase Out Cage Eggs By Promised 2025 Deadline | 10 News+

ALDI has failed to phase out cage eggs in their stores by the end of 2025, which was the promised deadline the supermarket giant gave a decade ago. Angelina Popovski, who was just 14 years old in 2015, started the successful petition calling for ALDI to transition entirely to cage-free eggs. An ALDI spokesperson now claims the company will “complete the transition to 100% cage-free shell eggs by 2030”.

Bodycam Footage Reveals Moment Police Confront Luigi Mangione At McDonald's | 10 News

Prosecutors have released bodycam footage showing the moment police officers first confronted Luigi Mangione, who identified himself as ‘Mark Azaria’, at a Pennsylvania McDonald's before arresting him. The footage, taken five days after UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was gunned down on a New York City sidewalk, shows Mangione inside the fast-food restaurant in Altoona, where officers approached him and asked for his name. It’s understood after the 27-year-old was handcuffed, a police officer found a loaded gun magazine wrapped in a pair of underwear in Mangione’s backpack. Mangione has pleaded not guilty to both state and federal murder charges, which carry the possibility of the death penalty.

Aftershock Warnings After Japan's 7.5 Magnitude Earthquake | 10 News

Communities in northern Japan are assessing the damage after a 7.5-magnitude earthquake injured at least 33 people and triggered a tsunami on Monday. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has reported the quake's magnitude as 7.5, slightly down from its earlier estimate of 7.6. A magnitude 6.6 and later a 5.1 quake were reported by the U.S. Geological Survey in the hours after the initial earthquake. Smaller aftershocks were continuing Tuesday. The JMA has urged residents in 182 municipalities to have a plan in place should another, larger earthquake occur in the following week.

100 Abducted Schoolchildren Freed In Nigeria | 10 News

One hundred schoolchildren were released on Monday after they were abducted from a Catholic school in central Nigeria. It has not been revealed whether the release was secured via negotiation, force, or if a ransom was paid. More than 300 children, with some as young as six, were kidnapped from St. Mary’s School in Papiri on November 21. Authorities are working to free the remaining hostages. Meanwhile, the freed children will undergo medical checks before being reunited with their families.

7.6-Magnitude Earthquake Triggers Tsunami In Japan | 10 News

Around 23 people are injured, one seriously, after a 7.6-magnitude earthquake shook three prefectures in Japan’s north-east on Monday night. The quake began around 80 kilometres off the coast of the Aomori prefecture, where 90,000 residents have been advised to take shelter at evacuation shelters. The event also triggered alerts in the Hokkaido and Iwate prefectures. A tsunami of about half a metre in height hit several coastal communities. Warnings for further tsunamis have since been downgraded, but authorities have warned the public of the possibility of a powerful earthquake hitting again within a week.
