Football Australia is pleased to announce the Subway Socceroos will face the United States during the October FIFA Men’s International Window, as the foundations of their FIFA World Cup 26™ preparations are set. The match – played at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, Colorado – will be played on Tuesday, 14 October (kick-off: 7.00pm local / 12.00pm AEDT – Wednesday, 15 October) and will follow Australia’s recently announced fixture against Canada in Montreal.

These matches are in addition to a two-match series against New Zealand in September, in which Australia will compete for the ‘ANZAC Soccer Ashes’ trophy.

The United States – who most recently made the Final of the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup – are currently ranked #16 in world and have been a consistent figure in the top 20 of FIFA’s global rankings. It will be the first time that Australia and the United States have faced off in more than 15 years, with their last meeting a friendly just prior to the commencement of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™.

The string of recently announced fixtures comes thanks to the Subway Socceroos booking their place at FIFA World Cup 26™, courtesy of direct qualification via their Round Three AFC Asian Qualifiers™ – Road To 26 campaign.

Football Australia’s Interim CEO, Heather Garriock said the confirmation of the Subway Socceroos’ matches in October signaled the organisation’s strong commitment to supporting the team’s journey to FIFA World Cup 26™.

“The United States are attracting significant interest globally when it comes to friendly fixtures and our ability to secure this match speaks volumes for Australia's standing in world football,” Garriock said.

“Playing multiple matches in North America this far out from FIFA World Cup 26™ is a fantastic result for the Subway Socceroos and is thanks to detailed, strategic planning that began several months ago as we mapped out the team’s journey to the tournament next year.

“We’re committed to leaving no stone unturned when it comes to the preparation Tony, his staff and the squad need over the next 12 months and we look forward to seeing how they can benefit from this experience,” Garriock concluded.

Subway Socceroos’ Head Coach, Tony Popovic welcomed confirmation of his side’s fixture against the United States.

"Another important match for our preparation that quickly follows our fixture against Canada,” Popovic said.

“When looking at our schedule following direct qualification, we identified travelling to North America as a high priority. Our results over the last 10 months have now given us the chance to play matches against two of the tournament hosts, an opportunity we intend to make the most of.

"The United States are another strong opponent and a great test for our squad. There will be much to take from our experience in this camp, and we’re looking forward to the challenge,” Popovic concluded.

Fans in Australia will be able to watch United States v Subway Socceroos thanks to Football Australia’s broadcast partner, Paramount Australia.
