'Hungry From The Get-Go': Beau Ryan Reveals What He Got Wrong About The Amazing Race: Celebrity Edition

Beau Ryan is back, ushering another batch of celebs and their loved ones on a race around the globe.

The Amazing Race Australia: Celebrity Edition is back again, launching on Monday, September 9 at 7.30 on 10 and 10 Play, and standing at the Pit Stop with open arms is host Beau Ryan.

Speaking to 10 Play about the upcoming season, Beau teased that this season, "We go to probably the best countries we've been to, respectfully".

"I think the people in the countries we visit are the difference, which is so key to the show," he continued. "People are so important for the teams because not only do you have to get through challenges and work with random people in public - whether they're asking for directions or jumping in their taxi - they have to work with the locals and the locals this year were brilliant."

On top of the incredible locations and the amazing people willing to help out along the way, Beau also said that the 11 teams of celebrities and their loved ones all bring their A-game to the race.

"They're all doing it for the right reasons," Beau said, "last year was a fantastic season and the finale is still a blur, but this year they're very hungry from the get-go. They all want to win."

When the idea of a celebrity season was first pitched, Beau admitted he was somewhat apprehensive that it might not have the same competitive edge as a usual season.

"Of the people we've had over the last five years, the contestants from all walks of life from around Australia, they all gave everything they could to stay in the race and try to win," Beau continued. "I genuinely thought that celebrities - because they were racing for charities and not themselves or their families - wouldn't, and I was wrong."

Having famous faces in the race also means that, occasionally, Beau is standing at the starting line looking at some of his mates or people he's worked with in the past.

"I don't like it, to be honest with you," he admitted. "I'm as professional as I can be and I think teams that know me get the message pretty quickly from the get-go that there's no favouritism, they're not getting anything extra from me, and they find that out after the first couple of days.

"Naturally I like that they get to experience it and we can talk after and say how crazy it was, and they can respect the show and respect what I do, but I don't like it," he laughed.

Speaking of things Beau isn't a fan of - throughout the race, teams often are confronted by their fears or are pushed out of their comfort zones with challenges that may test some of their worst nightmares. While Beau has always attempted to complete every challenge through the race where time permits, there's one thing he's not keen on facing: smoothies.

"I did it on I'm A Celebrity and I don't like the shake drinks. I can eat stuff but if it's blended... I don't know what it is, if you blend stuff or give me a concoction I struggle.

"I can get it down, but I can't hold it down, that's my weakness. I could eat a bull's penis, the brains, a cow's head, the eyeball, all of that. It's just when it's in a different texture I struggle with it," he said.

While this year's teams are clearly in it to win it, Beau said that the best advice he has for picking a teammate is to look for someone who compliments your strengths and weaknesses.

"There are a lot of teams that apply when they're very similar, but you want to have opposite strengths so you have fewer weaknesses. You're only as strong as your weakest link."
