Instagram To Introduce Feature To Stop Scrollathon’s

Instagram have announced a heap of new features, including one that encourages young users to… stop using it.

Insta users loves a good scroll (doom or otherwise), but we’d all be lying if we said we hadn’t spent more time flicking though our feed than is healthy for our mind, body and soul.

The app can get pretty addictive, with the onslaught of friends and celebrities carefully curated lives to peer into.

How is anyone expected to sleep at night without knowing what Chris Hemsworth had for dinner?

There was already concern about how much teens were using it, but BTS joining isn’t doing them any favours.

Now, a new opt-in system, is hoping to help combat the unhealthy scrolling for young people.

In a blog post, Instagram CEO, Adam Mosseri said the “Take A Break” feature encourages teens to stop scrolling if they have been on the social media platform for a while.

Mosseri said the company will launch the time-a-break feature immediately in the US, UK, Ireland, Canada, New Zealand and Australia. It will roll out globally by early next year.

It will also begin letting parents and guardians see how much time their teens spend on Instagram and set time limits.

Sounds like a good feature to help teens spend their time in less damaging ways, like playing video games.

Let’s hope it's also available for us adult tragics of the platform.
