According to the Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã, ground maintenance workers started trying to recapture all 132 of the runaway rodents on Tuesday, but as of Saturday, there were still 16 loose inside the Airbus 320.
Maintenance staff are said to be searching for the remaining cute critters before they can nibble on aircraft cables.
CM reported that the aircraft had left Lisbon for Ponta Delgada with passengers as well as an order for a pet shop that included over 100 hamsters, ferrets and some birds.
When the plane landed in Ponta Delgada, baggage handlers noticed the transportation boxers were damaged, and the hamsters had escaped.
While local media is reporting the remaining 16 hamsters have since been found, TAP Air Portugal has not confirmed the reports.
