'Sh*t Hit The Fan': Tommi Manninen Reflects On That Epic Tribal Council

The wolf of Survivor Finland explains his botched blindside, and that epic tribal council twist that saw his game blow up.

When Tommi Manninen received the call to join Survivor: Australia V The World, it was the day before his wedding.

"I thought it was a scam," Tommi told 10 with a laugh. "It was just an email like, 'Hi, it's a producer from Australian Survivor, ' and I was like the meme -- take all my money! I'm ready to lose it all if that's what it takes."

Having watched Survivor since the Australian Outback season first began airing in Finland, Tommi said he had no idea of who else could be making up the rest of the World tribe alongside him.

"When I flew to Samoa, I just hoped they were bringing their A-game, and I remember the moment I saw Tony for the first time, I just saw a bit of his bald neck, and I was like, okay, they have it all here."

Early on, Tommi fell into an alliance with Kass and Lisa, the 'Pinky Alliance', but the women on the World tribe also formed a close bond, putting him at the bottom of the pecking order.

"That's why I put all my money in the auction on that scroll," Tommi explained. "I just wanted to have that advantage, I wanted to have some game going on because I didn't have an idol or immunity necklace or the key from our beach, I was playing without all those."

Losing out on the scroll, Tommi returned from the auction empty-handed, but Parvati approached him with some of the cookies she had saved from her hidden advantage.

"I was sold. That was like Survivor ABC - don't fall into her trap - but I was like okay, I'm in! She gave me cookies? Maybe she wants to play with me!"

Noticing that Kass was her biggest competition in endurance challenges, Tommi pitched a Kass blindside to Parvati, hoping to secure a new ally in the game. But according to Tommi, Parvati's next move was to tell Kass exactly what he had said.

"I was a little surprised at how united the women's alliance was at that point because it made perfect sense to me to send Kass home, even for my game," Tommi said. "I'd still have Lisa and, with her and Cirie, we might break Parvati and Cirie."

After winning the immunity necklace, Tommi wanted to make use of his safety and pitched a plan to blindside Parvati. Hoping to bring in the Aussies into the move, but wary of once again pitching a move and having it blow up in his face before they even made it to tribal, Tommi wanted to make sure it was the right time.

But Lisa had misunderstood that he had already confirmed the move with Luke and Shonee, and she relayed to them that she wasn't part of the plan while simultaneously bringing them in on it. This miscommunication gave the Aussies just enough wiggle room to expose a crack in the world alliance and take advantage of it.

"That's the reason I was so quiet in the first tribal," Tommi said. "I really understood that shit hit the fan beautifully, and I was just there with my immunity necklace like, well! I tried!"

Under the assumption that he would be returning to the beach that night, Tommi put his vote on Shonee as the World alliance originally intended. His hands were clean. "Then Jonathan said, let's go do a challenge and vote again, I was like okay... the situation is moving again," he laughed.

Copping heat for hatching a plan to vote out Parvati, Tommi stood by it, adding that Parvati had first made it abundantly clear to him she had no plans to work with him when she outed his plan to blindside Kass earlier in the game.

"That's why I said, 'You don't want to play with me, I don't want to play with you. Hey, Australian guys, would you like to play with me?' I was making the best out of the worst situation, and I really knew that I was swinging from the minority, but I might as well do the best with what I could."

It was a disastrous night for Tommi, but he laughed at the idea that it was unfair for him to lose his immunity necklace before the second vote. "It's Survivor. It should be unfair."

As many people's first introduction to Selviytyjät Suomi -- Finland's Survivor -- Tommi has been blown away by some fans' dedication to the franchise, hearing that they've started watching his original season.

"That's a surreal thing ... you need subtitles to watch my season! I just love the effort that people are going to," he said.

"And having all those amazing people that we had in the case, I was sure Tony was not going to talk to me ever because he's a legend of the game, but last week he slid into my DMs like, 'Did you watch the episode?' I was like, oh my god, Tony's in my phone. I'm living the dream!

"I'm always just like, I'm just Tommi from Finland!"

Survivor: Australia V The World continues Tuesday at 7.30pm and don't miss the Grand Finale on Sunday at 7pm on 10.
