Jenny Lam

Western Australia Age: 28 Occupation: Entrepreneur

Smart and savvy, business entrepreneur Jenny knows what she wants in the MasterChef Australia kitchen and she isn’t afraid to go after it.

Born in Brisbane the family moved to Sydney when she was two years old before relocating to Perth’s northern suburbs at the age of 13.

Studying HR Management, Marketing and Commerce at the University of Western Australia, Jenny left before completing the degree, selling home and cleaning products door-to-door.

After meeting a business consultant and motivational speaker on a trip to Los Angeles, Jenny realised where she wanted her career to go. She saved up to launch her own company, Generation Marketing, which has now celebrated 10 years in business.

While keeping busy with business, Jenny was always cooking and dreamt of opening her own cooking school and publishing cookbooks. Learning to cook at eight years of age from her father, her culinary knowledge grew with traditional Vietnamese dishes. By the age of 13 she was making all the family meals.

Jenny says her greatest strength in the MasterChef Australia kitchen will be her perseverance and mental stamina, but admits her food knowledge could let her down.

A fan of Gordon Ramsay for his journey to culinary success, she admires his confidence and assertiveness in the kitchen and his twist on classics with bold flavours. She also cites Yotam Ottolenghi as a favourite.

Confident and consistent, Jenny says both her best and worst quality would be her brutally honest manner, laying it all on the kitchen floor as she says her signature dish, her sticky date pudding, could compete with any restaurant’s pudding.

When she is not busy, Jenny likes to binge on television series like Suits and Vikings. She also loves to travel, hike, shop and do yoga.
