Donald Trump says he has ordered two US nuclear submarines to be repositioned in response to "provocative" remarks from former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev. In a Truth Social post, Trump said the move was made “just in case” the threats were serious and warned Medvedev to “watch his words.” He later told reporters outside the white house that the decision was based on “safety for our people.” The Pentagon has not confirmed the deployment.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency on Thursday as torrential rain and flooding caused dangerous conditions across the East Coast of the United States. The National Weather Service issued flash flood warnings for parts of the Northeast urban corridor, including the New York City metropolitan area. The Weather Prediction Center’s daily rainfall outlook showed a 40 per cent or higher risk of heavy showers likely to trigger flash flooding across sections of the mid-Atlantic and Northeast, home to around 37 million people.

Tsunami threats across Asia and the pacific have subsided following an 8.8 magnitude earthquake in Russia. Vision shows small tsunami waves rolling across Japanese shores following the earthquake. Japan's Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning following the quake in the Kamchatka Peninsula, with evacuation orders issued to more than 2 million people. Waves between 0.3 metres and 1.3 metres were recorded across the warning region, although no major damage or injuries have been reported.

Russia's main air carrier, Aeroflot, has been hit by a crippling cyber attack, so far grounding more than 40 flights and causing chaos at airports, at a time where Russians usually go on holidays. President Trump has launched an extraordinary, and unfounded, spray against former US President Barack Obama, after Trump's intelligence chief alleged a "treasonous conspiracy" committed by Obama over Russia's involvement in the 2016 Presidential election. Trump's comments came following questions from the press in the Oval Office about his administration's continued refusal to release files associated with Jeffrey Epstein; the President quickly pivoting into the attack against Obama. "The witch hunt that you should be talking about is they caught President Obama absolutely cold ... they tried to rig the election and they that caught. And there should be very severe consequences for that," Trump said.
