Born in Hong Kong, Jeff Lam’s family migrated to Adelaide in the 80’s. Cooking and particularly baking is not just a hobby for Print Production Technician Jeff, it’s a form of creativity and expression that brings him joy. He loves to create dishes that are not only delicious but tell a story, inspired by his own heritage or the diverse culinary experiences he has encountered through his travels.

Comfort food plays a significant role in Jeff’s cooking. He loves creating dishes that evoke feelings of nostalgia and warmth – a hearty stew, a flavour-filled curry, his famous handmade prawn and pork dumplings or a dessert to die for.

While looking up to luminaries like Nigella Lawson, Maggie Beer and Gordon Ramsay, Jeff considers his mum, Grace, his number one food idol. Her ability to create happiness through every dish has constantly inspired him to cook throughout his life. She taught him not just the fundamentals of cooking, but how you can look into the heart and soul of each dish.

Jeff loves that being in the kitchen allows a canvas for creativity, and with a talent for baking, it was a huge thrill for Jeff to win second place at the 2023 Melbourne Royal Show for his basil and lime macarons. He would love to open a bakery one day, a place that would bring people together for good, humble food, focused on seasonal ingredients.

Having applied for MasterChef Australia several times over the years, in 2026, Jeff has finally earned himself a coveted white apron and is casting self-doubt aside to take the place in the Top 24 that he has worked so hard for.

With the steadfast support of his family and partner of 22 years, Damian, Jeff is ready to give the competition his all.
