He might be the baby of his family, but that didn’t stop Luke Harris’ four older brothers begging him to cook them a steak or his signature gnocchi! Luke, 19, has since moved out of the family home in Geraldton to Perth, where he is studying a Bachelor of Education, focused on high school maths. On weekends, he sells veggies at the local farmers' markets, with the perk of keeping the leftovers to use for his own recipes.

Growing up, both Mum Eugenie and Dad Khim were strong cooking influences, teaching Luke different tricks in the kitchen. Don’t tell them, but he reckons he may now have surpassed their skills! They loved throwing dinner parties to impress friends, and as a kid, Luke enjoyed the theatrics of it all.

He learnt too from both his grandmas, as well as from YouTube and looked up to food idols Gordan Ramsay, Poh Ling Yeow and Jamie Oliver. As an avid MasterChef Australia viewer over the years, Luke always dreamt of earning a spot in the MasterChef kitchen, and now he has made it a reality, he won’t be squandering the opportunity.

Outside of the kitchen, Luke is a sports nut who loves his cricket and all things fitness, as well as fishing and camping, and works part-time with a youth camp organisation.

Whilst he can hold his own in the sweet arena, savoury cooking is more in Luke’s wheelhouse, but he prides himself on being a versatile cook. The more he cooks for family and friends, the more he understands the power of food to create joy and instant connection, with the ability to take tough days and turn them around.

Super ambitious and without the weight of experience to cloud his outlook, expect Luke to roll the dice in the kitchen as the competition’s youngest contender, backing himself where others might scoff.

Destined to be the cheekiest, chattiest cook amongst the Top 24, Luke dreams of opening his own restaurant or wine bar one day, but knows there is a mountain to climb before that might happen, starting right here in the MasterChef kitchen. For now, he’s pretty keen to get his Insta popping too!
